Yoga may improve your cholesterol

Yoga may improve your cholesterol

Written by Aviva Tulasi

Exercise is good for your health and well being. When you exercise, you increase your circulation, your immune system works better and you release endorphins. More specifically, studies show that moderate activity has a positive effect on cholesterol. The mechanism for this is likely due to the metabolization of triglycerides during exercise which then promotes the movement of LDL and HDL into the liver.

Practicing yoga increases strength, flexibility and balance. The intensity of the practice determines whether or not it is classified as moderate exercise. You might not always build up a sweat, but it is safe and accessible for everyone. In addition, yoga improves sleep and reduces stress, which can indirectly lead to lowered cholesterol. WebMD explains how yoga on and off the mat can be helpful in lowering cholesterol. More research is needed to learn about the specific link between yoga and lipid levels.
