Dogwood Studios has been working on our level of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We recognize that we need to do more and be better. We are committed to having courageous conversations and taking active steps to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. In the last few months, our team has come together to put what we think is important about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into words. Creating a DE&I statement is the first step in transforming our ideas about diversity, equity and inclusion into action and results. We hope you can join us in this process of learning and growing.

Our DE&I statement: [also found on our website homepage: www.dogwoodstudioyoga.com]

Dogwood Studios is committed to learning and growing! We strive for everyone to feel respected and supported, to be treated equally, and to be celebrated for who they are. We are very excited about our ongoing endeavor to make Dogwood Studios a refuge and beacon of compassionate practice by including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

The work to create a DE&I statement started by creating a working definition for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dogwood Studios believes that

  1. Diversity includes:

    1. Oneness across humanity - one consciousness

    2. Platform of respect

    3. Interconnectedness

    4. Draws us to inclusion

    5. Differing beliefs

    6. Who we are is beyond the ego

    7. Opportunity to feel uncomfortable. Feel comfort in different ways (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, moral)

  2. Equity includes:

    1. Same opportunities

    2. Equal access

    3. Resources

    4. Accepting people’s needs are different

  3. Inclusion includes:

    1. Everyone is welcome

    2. A loving feeling

    3. Changing the mindset to yoga is for everyone

    4. Accepting people for their true selves and listening to their perspective, honoring their traditions

    5. Be patient with ourselves!

Studies have shown, when we make DE&I an integral part of our lives, we improve everyone’s life.

As part of our ongoing effort to be proactive about our DE&I statement, Dogwood Studios will start hosting a monthly Karma Class. The intent of the class is to make yoga more accessible and support a local organization that supports a population in need. Stay tuned for class sign-ups.
