Commit to Meditate This May

Commit to Meditate This May at Dogwood Studios! Join us this May for one, some or all of the opportunities to make meditation part of your daily routine. Keep track of your meditations to win a prize.

Life is made up of a series of changes and challenges. Yoga practices ebb and flow like the seasons. When your energy is down like it is in the winter, you slow down and maybe you do a little less yoga. As the days get longer and the temperature gets warmer you can feel the pull of renewed energy and perhaps you are ready to do a little more.

Yoga Sutras of Pantajali 1.12 and 1.13 remind us that yoga takes effort, perseverance, patience and continual practice.

1.12 These thought patterns (vrittis) are mastered (nirodhah, regulated, coordinated, controlled, stilled, quieted) through practice (abhyasa) and non-attachment (vairagya).

1.13 Practice (abhyasa) means choosing, applying the effort, and doing those actions that bring a stable and tranquil state (sthitau).

Natasha Rizopoulos explains in Yoga Journal Article, “If you can be resolute in your efforts and, in equal measure, not be fixated on the outcome of those efforts, your consciousness will become less hectic, and your vrittis (mental modifications or habitual thought patterns) will still or settle.”

These sutras remind us that we have to reaffirm our commitment to yoga again and again. We have to pause and review if our practice is meeting our goals and needs. We have to commit toward steadiness of mind and combat the downward pull that distracts us from our practice.

This May, Dogwood Studios will be hosting many opportunities to develop a steadfast and determined commitment towards meditation. Keep track of your meditation with this Meditation Tracker.
