Meditation Can be Simple

May Lunchtime Learning: Meditation Techniques. Wednesdays 11:45 am - 1:00 pm. Learn, practice and get your questions answered.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind.

Meditation can be simple. It is a time to comfortably sit in contemplation. You let go and see what is in your awareness. Learn more about how to meditate with our blog from 2019 Meditation: Why, What, When, Where, & How.

Purpose of Meditation:

  • Short-term:

    • Meditation helps to focus our attention or become the observer of our awareness. This can help decrease what feels like clutter in our mind or repeated thoughts of worry about the future that causes stress.

    • This process is like a simple reset of a pattern and may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

  • Over time:

    • The purpose of meditation is to cultivate calm and overtime increase the length of periods of present moment experiences.

    • Observing the thoughts, feelings and body during meditation as the observer can support decreased reactivity and stress. This builds up new patterns that help us to apply this outside of yoga and meditation.
