Dogwood Studios has a New Home at Yoga Shala in Carrboro!

Dogwood Studios is excited to announce that we are moving into our new home! We are joining the wonderful yoga collaborative at Yoga Shala to offer Dogwood’s Mindful Movement and Yoga classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10am to 11:15am. Fridays we will also offer our hybrid Meditation Class at 11:30am to 12:30pm.

Yoga Shala is located in the heart of downtown Carrboro in the white building at 204 W Main St Unit C. The intimate space radiates sunshine and rainbows offering us a sanctuary to practice yoga together whether you choose the in person option or joining us virtually from home.

The days of bringing all your props along to practice In Person is over! You will still need to bring your own mat, but if you prefer to leave the rest of your props at home, you can. Yoga Shala has bolsters, blocks and blankets available for your use.

Maybe you have found memories of the good old days (three years ago) when it was joyful to take our time while arriving for a yoga class. We hope to return to the slow paced life of enjoying a short stroll from the car to the studio. The convenient location does not offer many parking spaces, but there are plenty of municipal lots nearby. Do not park in any of the Auto Logic spots. Plan to arrive early, and clear your mind as you take your time entering the building and being in the heart of Carrboro.

The first Mindful Movement and Yoga class at Yoga Shala will be THIS Wednesday April 13 at 10 am. Sam will teach the first class on April 13th to welcome all of us into the new space. For now, our In Person options will be intimate with a maximum of 8 people. We are still requiring pre-registration at least an hour before class and proof of vaccination to attend an In Person class. Class sign up will continue to be on Dogwood’s website.

We look forward to intimate classes at the Shala. We hope you can join us!

Online options will not go away. If you prefer to practice virtually, you will still have the option to do so. Choose the option that is right for you.

Sign Up for this Wednesday’s class with Sam or plan ahead and sign up for another date using the calendar on our website.

The moderate temperatures makes it an ideal time to practice outdoors. Sam is teaching yoga Lunch Time Yoga at the North Carolina Botanical Garden Tuesdays at noon. Immerse yourself in springtime as you practice yoga in the beautiful streamside meadow. Register through the North Carolina Botanical Garden website.

And don’t forget we have an amazing workshop, Optimize Your Yoga Practice, with guest teacher and Physical Therapist Jacob Tyson (PT, DPT) on Saturday April 30th, 1-3pm. In this workshop, Jacob will bring his background in physical therapy and expertise in the Feldenkrais method to offer strategies to optimize movement in our yoga practice and off the mat.

In the workshop you will get:

  • A blend of discussion and gentle movement lessons

  • Guidance from a physical therapist on spinal movements

  • An increased body awareness

  • Awareness of how posture and habits impact movement

  • Yoga variations consistent with Feldenkrais method

  • Biomechanics of mindful movements

Check out our website for more information.
