Meditation can be hard. The silence feels uncomfortable, the mind races endlessly, unresolved emotions surface, or you might even drift off to sleep. It’s no wonder so many people think, “I just can’t meditate.” But meditation is a practice—a skill that develops over time.
Like any practice, meditation happens along a continuum. It begins with finding a moment of focus, noticing distractions, and gently guiding your attention back. Over time, it evolves into deep concentration and the absorbed state that defines true meditation. Cultivating this state requires patience, effort, and an approach that works for you.
Join us to redefine your relationship with meditation. In this workshop, we’ll explore the common challenges that make meditation difficult and learn practical strategies to experience focus. Through short meditation practices and group discussions, you’ll discover how meditation can fit seamlessly into your life so you can develop a meditation routine that fits your life and works for you.
Whether you’re completely new to meditation or have struggled to maintain a consistent practice, this workshop will help you:
Understand why meditation feels challenging (and why that’s perfectly normal).
Identify the obstacles standing in your way.
Experiment with short, accessible meditation techniques to find what resonates with you.
Create a personalized plan to build a sustainable meditation routine.
No prior experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to explore. Everyone can meditate.
What you will need to participate:
Something to support a comfortable seated position: a chair, pillows, meditation cushion (zabuton), bolster (zafu) or a meditation bench (seiza).
Props for your body that you need, e.g., for the sides of the legs when sitting cross-legged.
Blanket or shawl.
Journal and something to write with.
