What is Yoga Therapy?

Thanks to John Kepner from the International Association of Yoga Therapy  http://www.iayt.org/

He posted a new article on his website and Facebook that you might want to share with your doctor! It's called "Yoga Therapy Referral Guidelines for Healthcare Practitioners," and was just published in Yoga Therapy Today, published by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

The article, co-written with Dr. Loren FishmanLeigh BlashkiJohn Kepner and Subodh Tiwari, is an excerpt of the new medical textbook on yoga therapy, The Principles and Practice of Yoga in Health Care, which will be published this spring. http://www.drmccall.com/uploads/2/2/6/5/22658464/ytt_winter2016_feature_ytreferralguidelines.pdf

Check it out. Thanks!

Shoulder Health and Autumn

With Yin rising, we perform asanas that help support and balance the Lung (Yin) and Large Intestine (Yang) Meridians, as well as the Heart (Yin) and Small Intestine (Yang) Meridians. Congestion in our shoulders is common and you may find an increase as the season has changed. Performing Yin and Yang postures for the shoulders and neck are very beneficial. Also asanas that compress or lengthen the abdomen as well.

Use the Bandhas to your benefit in these poses. Jalandhara (chin), Uddiyana (abdominal region), and Mula (pelvic area).

Take a look at this article.

See you in class.
